Corrugated Panel Overview

Metal roofing and siding systems are inherently very durable. They have long-lifespans, withstand harsh weather, and keep your building energy efficient by trapping heat in during the winter and deflecting harsh sunlight in the summer. As a metal roofing and siding panel, corrugated panels have all of these qualities and more due to their signature design.

As indicated previously, corrugated metal has a wavy design that is created by bending the metal into an “s” shape. This shape makes corrugated panels very strong and rugged—it takes a lot to damage a corrugated panel. As a bonus, the ribbing helps prevent water buildup which can cause damage to your building.

Corrugated panels come in a range of colors and sizes so you can customize the panel to your project. At Great Northern Metal Company, we offer three options for corrugated metal roofing and siding panels: ⅞″ corrugated, ¼″ corrugated, and ½″ corrugated. Each one is available for different lengths and prices, and each type has unique benefits that make them incredibly valuable for roofing or siding projects (View our pros and cons section below to learn more).

As an exposed fastener panel, corrugated profiles have a panel fastener head that remains visible after installation. Corrugated steel panels are typically used as siding panels, but certain measurements, like the ⅞″ corrugated, can be used for certain residential or commercial metal roofing applications.

Panel Difficulty

If you are installing corrugated panels on a project, keep in mind that these are moderately tricky panels to install. Following the installation guidelines is key to making sure your corrugated panels are installed correctly.

On a scale from one to five (five being the hardest to install), corrugated panels are a three. For reference, they are less difficult to install than tuff rib metal panel profiles but slightly more difficult than board and batten metal siding. Corrugated profiles are an exposed fastener system, which requires careful precision when installing as a roofing panel. On roofing, you want the fastener on top of the corrugated rip to ensure your panels do not collect precipitation. On siding applications, you can place the fastener on top or on the bottom of the corrugated rib.

Additionally, When installing corrugated metal panels, pay close attention to the screw patterns. A misplaced screw can lead to the entire metal system being ineffective, leading to wasted materials, money, and time. Panel Aesthetic

Corrugated panels have a wonderfully rustic aesthetic, perfect for Montana residential and commercial buildings. But with their wavy design, corrugated panels can partner with a variety of architectural and style preferences—it’s flexible! From a classic, minimalist look to a funky modern design, corrugated panels can bring your unique vision to life. Additionally, our corrugated panels come in a variety of colors, so you can select a shade that matches the needs of your project.

These panels are typically used as siding panels, but they can also be used for accent walls, siding on a breakfast bar, and much more. Thicker gauge corrugated metal panels can be used for specific roofing applications, so speak to one of our metal roofing specialists to learn more about your options.
